Hong Kong and Thailand Part 2 - Cycling the buddhas

After a few nights in Bangkok, we were ready for a day trip out of the city. We chose to take a bike tour to Ayutthaya, which was the original capital of Siam (Thailand). The city was eventually captured by the Burmese and forgotten about. Once Bangkok was established as the new capital city, the city was rediscovered, along with its fabulous ruins. Our first stop was an old temple, where we truly lost count of all the buddhas we saw!
The men draped in yellow are Buddhist monks, who were in prayer when we visited - it was a pretty cool sight.
Notice that the stone buddhas were actually draped in yellow cloths covering one shoulder, the same as what the Buddhist monks were wearing. Next up, we cycled through the ruins of the old city, and saw a stunning image of Buddha head with a tree growing around it.

First, a few more ruins, and A LOT more buddhas (can you spot the human one?)
Then, we cycled pretty hard until we had a lovely thai lunch on the river. Last stop was a palace which is still used for modern banquets. Note that once again, I fell victim to the dress code, and so I had to sport a super hot sarong during the tour.
It was a great day, and we had our awesome guide to thank!
